This class is intended for System Programmers, System Administrators,
Security Administrators, Network Administrators and Operations
staff who have experience installing and/or managing z/OS,
and want to plan for and implement the installation of
z/OS V1R11.

Topics Covered In This Course
Technical content of z/OS V1R11
- This topic will reinforce the attendee's current z/OS technical
knowledge and provide a solid insight into the new features
introduced with each release of z/OS.
Policies
- Here we will discuss the policies and concepts involved
in ensuring that all issues pertaining to Coexistence/Migration/
Fallback are fully understood.
Planning for z/OS V1R11
- This topic will discuss Elements (Products) and Functionality
with in z/OS with the following emphasis:
- Withdrawn prior to z/OS V1R11
- Introduced up to and including z/OS V1R10
- Introduced in z/OS V1R11
- Planned to be withdrawn in a release after z/OS V1R11
- We will also discuss issues related to planning for z/OS
V1R11 on various models of z/Server
Positioning, Toleration and Coexistence for z/OS V1R11
- This topic will discuss actions that should be performed
in three circumstances:
- Before installing z/OS V1R11
- Before the first IPL of z/OS V1R11
- After the first IPL of z/OS V1R11
Ordering, Deliverables and ServerPac Enhancements
- Here we will review the intended order for z/OS to ensure
that all required optional products have been included.
Evolution of the delivery process (Tape DVD Web based
etc) and changes to the ServerPac dialog will be discussed
as necessary.
Migration Actions for z/OS functions and related products
- Migration is the first of two stages in an upgrade to a
new z/OS release. During this stage the new system is
installed with the objective of making it functionally
compatible with the previous system.
- General z/OS items
- The BCP
- DFSMS
- Communications Server
- Security Server
- JES2 or JES3
- z/OS UNIX
- zFS – Distributed File System
- Language Environment
- SMP/E
- The discussions will identify issues relating to technical
support, operations and application development where
appropriate.
Exploitation of new features
- Exploitation is the second of two stages in an upgrade to
a new z/OS release. During this stage we take whatever
action is required to exploit the enhancements available
in the new release.
- The discussions in this topic will follow the same product
agenda as in the Migration actions topic above.
